Lesson 15: Getting Waitlisted

[hana-flv-player video=”http://allinoneacademics.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/All-in-One-Lesson-15-Getting-Waitlisted-High.flv” width=”400″ description=”” player=”1″ autoload=”true” autoplay=”false” loop=”false” autorewind=”true” /]

Why are the numbers of people waitlisted each year rising?

[show-hide] 1.  The ApplyTexas online application has increased the number of applicants
2.  Unpredictability – the economy has changed
3.  Increased college lists because it’s so easy to apply to multiple schools, and colleges don’t know where they stand[/show-hide]

What to do if you get waitlisted:

[show-hide] 1. Consider your options: think long and hard about where else you have gotten in
2. Write an appeal letter
– to explain what you’ve done since the application was reviewed
– tell them if your scores have gone up, received an award or honor that they should know about
– don’t beg, just give them additional information
3. Contact alumni or professors to write a letter on your behalf
4. Send updates by mail
– send new scores
– send senior year grades
5. Say yes elsewhere
– waitlist chances are slim
– you can always transfer
6. Keep your parents out of this process
– you need to look independent
– it will be counterproductive for them to get involved [/show-hide]

DON'T HARASS THE ADMISSIONS OFFICE!
Use the other tools like letters and updates to make a compelling argument for your acceptance.
