[show-hide] Austin magnet students get a wide array of cultural and educational opportunities. First of all, they go on cultural field trips all year long. They go to museum openings to explore art and science, and they go international festivals to gain an appreciation of foreign ideas and customs. They also go to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo to absorb local culture. The fees for these excursions are covered by the district, so students miss school and have fun for free! Second, students get additional educational opportunities. They sit in on courses at the University of Houston and explore the UH campus. They work hand-in-hand with UH college students to build lectures and learn instructional techniques. They even write a training program for their own teachers, which they present at a teacher meeting. Third, students in the magnet spend a weekend at Camp Olympia, a fun retreat meant for team-building, relaxation, and entertainment. [/show-hide]
