Who goes to a Two-Year program?
[show-hide] Anyone who is interested in taking college classes and wants to avoid spending a ton of money on basic courses that are the same, no matter where you take them. [/show-hide]
Important facts:
– [show-hide] No one ever knows where you start college. They only know where you finish. [/show-hide]
– [show-hide] Your diploma only shows the school from which you graduate. [/show-hide]
– [show-hide] Texas community colleges have classes that follow the same standards as Texas four-year public universities. [/show-hide]
– [show-hide] It’s sometimes harder to transfer community college credit to private universities, but it’s not impossible. You just want to check first. [/show-hide]
– [show-hide] Community colleges do not offer four-year degrees, so you will have to transfer if you want a four-year degree. [/show-hide]
Benefits of Starting at Community College:
– [show-hide] You can save more than $20,000 per year. [/show-hide]
– [show-hide] Community colleges offer smaller classes. [/show-hide]
– [show-hide] You get time to decide what your major will be and then pick a four-year college that has a good program in that area. [/show-hide]
– [show-hide] You can get an associate’s degree at the end of two years, so you can get a better job during four-year college. [/show-hide]
Possible Drawbacks of Attending Community College:
– [show-hide] There is usually no campus life. [/show-hide]
– [show-hide] Classes fill up quickly, so you need to register on time. [/show-hide]
– [show-hide] You will have to be very careful in the classes you pic, so that they’ll transfer. [/show-hide]
What are the two streams of education for Two-Year institutions?
– [show-hide] 1. Vocational and 2. University Studies [/show-hide]
The Vocational option prepares students to [show-hide] go out and get employment after two years. [/show-hide] This pathway may also be called [show-hide] Career or Technical Programs. [/show-hide]
The University Studies option prepares students to [show-hide] transfer to four-year college. [/show-hide] This pathway may also be called [show-hide] Academic programs. [/show-hide]
