o, just because you’ve found the perfect college doesn’t mean that it’s the best match for your qualifications. Successfully applying to college also means taking a realistic approach. We need to analyze and categorize.
Reach Schools
Standard definition: [show-hide] Your numbers are below the average that the school reports [/show-hide]
What sort of schools should always be considered “reaches”? [show-hide] Rice and UT – if you’re not in the top 8% [/show-hide]
Does anyone get into his or her designated “reach” schools? [show-hide] Yes, because all of the other components of their application are the best they can be. [/show-hide]
Match Schools
Standard definition: [show-hide] Your numbers are within the range that the school reports [/show-hide]
Can the school’s numbers fall on the low side of the average and still be considered a “match”? [show-hide] Yes, because there are people with numbers lower than those reported that were still admitted [/show-hide]
What would keep you out of one of your match schools? [show-hide] Failing to take your application seriously, and not getting it in early [/show-hide]
Shoo-In Schools
Standard definition of a shoo-in school: [show-hide] Your numbers are above those that the school reports as averages. [/show-hide]
If I only get into a “shoo-in”, will I still get a decent education? [show-hide] Absolutely, because the concepts and facts are the same at any school. [/show-hide]
